not really, its the idiot admins who kill this game.

To be fair, a large portion of the community isn't that great either.

players are fine cuz they are paying, but if you get stabbed in the ass by 10 different servers in the last few months, you see no reason to play this game anymore.

"playing" or "boting" ?

I know that you are talking about p servers, but the main people who are paying NCWest (and NCTaiwan) are actually botmasters. So I would expect a similar thing in p servers as well.

Otherwise you MUST go the way @MasterToma did, simply RE and create equivalent source code.

Btw, I completed C1 3 months ago :) And 10 days ago we switched to C2. Real C2, which was never exists in private servers. Yea, C2 is still in progress.

If you know, how do extenders work, you should understand, that offline shop, craft book, vampiric, vote rewards,  auto-soul shots, anti-bot CAPTCHA - those things are almost impossible to do on c1 with extenders. Not talking about hundreds of bugs, and stabilizing sever so it's not crashing twice per day with 300 online.

I don't care about online much, very few ppl who are love c1/c2, I'm doing this to preserve part of history. And extenders/L2J/private projects in 90% are for $$.

I'm not exempting owner practices in general, I'm just stating that the community is so entitled these days that all the organized clans/cp ask for money or special perks to join a project, and there's a plethora of servers that are willing to do that. The problem is that after a month or so, the said sides abandon ship and cash out their epics/gear, and this kills servers. But usually the time-frame is enough for a project to have generated enough profits to call it a day. Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat. : P

Maybe we should create a sub community of server owners that are not greedy assholes and actually care to provide fair long term servers that are focused on community building and unique features.

I always thought that it would be interesting if a crowd funded project was created by the community, for the community. I'm completely oblivious as to how much it costs to secure top files, employ a credible developer, and how much maintenance & staff would require, but I suppose someone with experience on the subject can enlighten us.

Perhaps crowd fund is a way to secure a project without financial concerns, and back-door deals. Just think about it. Zero donations (for perks), zero dependancy on mercenaries, zero concerns over the server having to make sure it's not at a loss financially for its owner.

The community funds it, the developers get paid, the files are bought or leased, and everyone involved is happy.

Wasnt this the initial model of servers back in the day? Voluntary donations by the community to cover the costs without any ingame rewards?

    • I think you're severely overestimating the brain power of the average lineage 2 player xD
    • Ever since claude has gotten good, I have used it to make my files better. Over the last three months I have uncovered a STAGGERING amount of exploits using claude, simply by directing it to methods of exploitation and areas of the code I know from experience are not well developed. At first I thought it was only L2JMobius issues, but it turns out all known public and private packs are insecure in multiple ways.    The L2J codebase from which all packs derive, is so incoherent with so many interweaving layers, a complete lack of proper layering, such that one simple line change that looks totally innocent, can lead to the surface of multiple exploitation vectors.    The way things stand now, a player with some knowledge of how things work and a claude subscription can easily bypass client guards and basically ruin servers. It astonishes me that this has not yet happened as I can't be the only one that has a pair of eyes that have seen these things. The things will get much worse as time passes cause there's a huge amount of code being produced in most packs using AI agents. Code that is not properly checked and that poses big risk for anyone willing to adopt it as it introduces a lot of uncertainty to his project.    At this point I'm at a loss for words. I personally cannot guarantee to the player base, that with any pack available, I can open a server and won't have a hacker a week later corrupt the whole econbomy of the server.   Sad times ahead ...
    • Despite the overwhelming amount of expert testimony explaining why this project was fundamentally broken and apparently an insult to several generations of software engineering, the fucking thing continues to improve, and all it takes is copypasting Galagard's comments to ChatGPT as a prompt. I was going to dedicate three months to it, but unfortunately I have other things to do. ### Changelog - Fixed terrain boundaries and seamless heightmap edges. - Added native cylinder collision. - Improved water generation, height handling and missing asset support. - Fixed collapsed meshes, zero-scale actors and USX/UTX package lookup. - Fixed various parser issues. - Improved caching. **28% faster batch generation**, identical output. - Searchable errors, warnings and skipped items. - Maps/minute statistics and UI improvements. - The spinning ASCII donut remains fully operational. ### Testing Since some of our experts were particularly concerned about whether the generator could actually generate anything, I decided to test the entire Samurai client. **347 maps.** **347 L2J files.** **347 L2OFF files.** **347 pathnode files.** **1,041 successfully generated and validated files.** I'd also like to sincerely thank our dedicated community volunteers for continuing to provide free quality assurance. Your contributions have been invaluable. It's genuinely amazing how much useful feedback you can get from people who supposedly don't care about your software. Unfortunately, ChatGPT keeps fixing the problems you report, so please try finding some harder ones next time. And to those concerned about the future of software development, don't worry. I'm sure spending three months doing something that takes seven minutes will remain a highly marketable skill.   https://github.com/911reg/911reg-MapExtractor/releases/download/v0.9.0/911reg-MapExtractor-0.9.0-win64.zip   https://github.com/911reg/911reg-MapExtractor   Haters, eat your hearts out.
