Asterios has real 15k+ online at rush hours. I mean yeah, it's Russian server, but it's usually the first one I mention when someone says L2 is RIP. Also I agree with folks that the "oldschool" servers have very little chance of success these days, unless very heavily advertised... The future of EU servers lies in Classic and Bloody Classic servers. It's only a matter of time until both server owners and players jump on the Classic hype wagon.

The general rule is that the features don't really matter, it's the advertisement and especially name that counts. If you want people, try to buy out some dead project with decent followers on social media (and preferably a long user mail list) and build on that. The thing is, it's very hard to impress L2 players these days. Things like "non-influental donations" and "supported even with less than 100 online" were burned out already because it's a phrase that virtually every server owner promises. If you want to catch players' attention, it needs to be something jaw-dropping. Also if there's anything that I'd consider as for having a potential, is a server based on Classic chronicle. If you want a midrate, fine, but make it a Classic. Even a basic Java Classic will attract MUCH more people than a perfect H5/Interlude files. The thing with Classic chronicle is that combines best of both worlds - the oldschool content of C6 and functionality of H5, just both better. People who try Classic usually don't come back to the older chronicles. Sure there're still some people who play them, but their community is shrinking as more and more people try the Classic.

You mean l2classic.club? That l2classic.club that has been online for over 3 years and has another patch on its way soon? Not sure what you're up to, l2classic.club is a definition of successful server. Anyway good luck @MMOWAY, it's great to see Bloody Classic server coming up, big potential.

So, NCwest is opening a new Classic server... Some people over there are hyped that some countries - including Russia - will be blocked, and thus there'll be much less botting. Is it really the case tho? Is that restriction any hard to bypass? I see a lot of RMTraders selling adena on the current NCwest servers and my spider sense is telling me that not all that is honestly farmed...

The "less than 4 lines is a bit restrictive", you often need those 4 lines to make it rhyme, like the roses and violets thing: Roses are red, Violets are blue, da da daa da da duu (not participating since I'm already VIP, I have to give you peasants a chance)

I'm glad people are finally realizing that Classic is an absolute jewel chronicle for PvP-oriented servers. Interlude-like environment with High Five-like balance.

It makes a perfect sense on PvP servers - people can join and start PvPing right ahead, but people who play there for longer periods can get a slight edge over others by getting the small extra. Also server is apparently still online, so...

Pretty sure if you hit someone with 170k m.atk you're going to look a bit suspicious

Dunno, the date feels a bit rushed, I feel like it would deserve more time to advertise and all.

Well the thing is, if the loading screen is really cool then why not, but it's about being mature about implementing it. There're always two ways to do it: A) Admins force it into a patch with no other option. People who happen to not enjoy the server have to either live with it on other servers they play or manually remove it (which is not easy if you're a common user) B) Admins let it out of the patch as an extra file, so that people who enjoy the server can have this extra. Or even better, alongside with the installer, also provide an uninstaller which removes all the extra files. It shouldn't even be that hard to make. The problem is that most admins just don't even bother thinking that far. They think to themselves - "you'll play my server and you'll enjoy it, if not then f*** you". I'm sure that for many people, this behaviour is a first red flag. Ironically enough, in most cases, the less you force players to stay on the server, the more likely they actually do.

Well personally I found my server (it doesn't have any custom textures btw-), I'm just speaking generally ... There's absolutely no reason to mess up with players' client textures... Nobody, ever, in the entire history of Lineage 2, has ever thought to himself "wow this custom loading screen is cool".
