Hi all.

Not sure if this is interesting for others but I'll give it a go.

I'm looking into building my own l2j server, mostly for learning, and I'm not sure what base project to use.

While looking around I've found 2 stable sources: L2J and L2Mobius.

My question would be, which one to use as a starting point for my server? Why one is "better" the the other, and ofc, why?

If there are other base projects that are better then the ones I've found, pls let me know.

If take all good stuffs from Mobius which wasn't implemented in L2J and put it into L2J then this package will be better the both together taken. But still not enough for stable low rates live project.

If you wish to learn, the official L2JServer is the right choice. It focuses on retail behavior, has best structure and will soon update to Java 16.

Mobius is a hybrid L2JServer/Unity ripoff with some custom content already present around this forums. I wouldn't say is bad, but community isn't very helpful and they focus on paid source which also isn't a lot better either, except for the fact it "supports" more branches.

As previously said neither of them is suitable for live.
If you are planning to invest the time needed to make it worth,
I suggest you go with L2JServer.

Those saying "Official" L2jServer means about this one:

https://www.l2jserver.com/

Right?

I mean, why wouldnt be any of those a good choice for a live server? At the end, post owner said that he just wants to learn and you can't learn much without having live users testing.

Of coarse you can have them live and they are very stable.
Why I wouldn't recommend them for live project (unless is Beta) is because of missing features.

Architecture wise yes.
Java++.
Those are best to learn on.

    • Hey. I've been looking all over the internet about this but not being able to find anything about it. I have edited systemmsg using MSG editor changing colors etc. But now I want to change and add some of the sounds as well. But I need the sound IDs for each audiofile and I dont know how to find them. Ive found all the audio files but I cant use the filename as someone said in a thread here, it only seem to take numbers. I have looked into every guide about systemmsg on this website and no one mention anything about the sound, just that its possible to add sound but nothing more. So, do anyone know how to find these sound IDs? Preferably together with the soundname of the audio file that it plays so I know which ID to use for each soundfile. Thanks in advance!
