whats the point of in-game updates if user has to restart game anyway and it could be done at game start?

i see no profit in constant pooling for updates by all users

The point is that the update will already be installed / delivered without requiring to make the player wait for the update the next time he tries to log in. That's common sense

and what if someone has ghetto internet speed and attend to siege in-game, while updater will find out there is super important 200mb of hats textures to download? :D

This is an extreme case scenario, that I didn't consider, but there's a workaround by defining the file update severity level for each file

How do push notifications work? I doubt we can use GCM on external non google apps, or is it with websockets?

I'd rather don't discuss technical aspects here

Then most probably a chron job, or a lie

Either way, what dose it look like, can it be themed? That random bucket of features doesn't sound too appealing. Whats the launcher/updater gotta do with the player, and how dose versioning work?

Everything looks like a random ordered list of features with no end. Why is it worth this much?

Its not android-like push notifications or anything sophisticated as you're currently imagining, rather a simple background task (on the bottom right taskwindow)that updates the .list file and checks for updates every given time and sets the application on the foreground with an orange flash on the taskbar. My mistake calling it push but its som

It can't be themed (for now) as the main idea is to create a minimal auto-updater.

I won't explain how versioning works, but I can reveal its SHA256 based

I don't consider the price high, I personally maintain a medium sized server that makes multiples of this price tag within a week from the donations.

Reasons of "high price"

  • Considered as premium software
  • Its based on pure win32 (Not MFC, QT or some shitty WPF crap)
  • Its compatible with all windows versions bigger or equal to win2000
  • Native Code: Most routines written in C with a custom C++ win32 wrapper for win forms
  • Statically linked hence highly portable (400-500KB size)
  • 100% x86 Native executable (Native C++ forms are rare today)

haha avatar_945839_1442478997.png

"Native" is a new fency word ? Your balls dont grow bigger if you put that word in every sentence =D

More of that this updater has nothing new complain to old 2008 from gita0, or any other, it just has nice word and many fancy letters describing what it isnt in reality , dont fool yourself with that guy, he is simple scammer, looking for a easy way to get money, no  more no less.

Yeah thats a chron job.

As is, its still needs work, its missing the nr 1 thing, the launcher UI itself. And an encoding doesnt really says anything when you said it syncs of whatever is on my google drive account. What's important is the END USER's opinion, not a list of C dev nerd stuff. And personally i don't find code injection at runtime or binary just put inside at the start of a critical dependency to be a "client side protection" its too shady mate, but I don't know whats the current trend now in l2 so i have no voice here, just a personal opinion.

All in all, i think the price tag is so high just to show off, you don't really wanna sell it and its not in a stable production ready state.

PS: Please don't take offense I am  stupid at criticising. Would be great if it was made more appealing for the user and implement the push notifications with the site through websockets.

I made something similar where the api and WS server is on the same port with a jsock stomp client written in C (so it can be ported to android and objective-c) and spring framework jsock support: https://spring.io/guides/gs/messaging-stomp-websocket/

But thats a webapp, still kinda cool  having an rest api & ws to control the server and launcher and w/e, gives a lot of control ^^

Excuse my ignorance, but I wasn't aware of the term "chron". Indeed this software was created for myself and its nothing close to mass production or anything. I am pretty sure there will be a few serious guys that will need something like this at the time when this project becomes mature.
