Ο Ben έπασχε από μιά πάθηση, την υπερτροφική μυοκαρδιοπάθεια και στα βίντεό του στο YouTube είχε δηλώσει ότι κατάφερε τρεις φορές να «ξεγελάσει» το θάνατο. Όμως, ανήμερα τα Χριστούγεννα έφυγε από τη ζωή αφήνοντας ως παρακαταθήκη το βίντεο – ημερολόγιό του. Την τελευταία εβδομάδα της ζωής του ο Ben Breedlove ήταν στην κορυφή των αναζητήσεων στο YouTube, με τους θεατές των βίντεό του να ξεπερνούν τα 6 εκατομμύρια. Αυτή τη στιγμή, περισσότερα από 1.000 βίντεο που κυκλοφορούν στο web αναφέρουν στην περιγραφή το όνομά του, ενώ στην κηδεία του παρευρέθηκαν 1.500 άτομα, τα περισσότερα εκ των οποίων τον γνώρισαν μέσα από τα βίντεό του. Οι γονείς του ανακάλυψαν τα videos, και αρχικά σοκαρίστηκαν που έβλεπαν ξανά τον γιο τους, στη συνέχεια όμως δήλωσαν πως αισθάνονται υπερήφανοι για την ωριμότητά του.
