opensuse

or open solaris (really a modified unix)

They have always been the most productive and progressive, they are more programmer / professional focused.

If you are just a simple home user, they you migth want to go with something easy and friendly like freespire, or even fedora.

Those are all free versions and have matching paid versions with commercial support as well.

first of all, you should start up with Linux Ubuntu, ubuntu looks like with windows and it is very easy to use, then you will have to install some useful programs, go here:

http://www.maxhackers.com/forum/index.php?topic=3325.0

and install them

then you have to register to a forum with ubuntu users.

GR Forum: http://forum.ubuntu-gr.org/

EN Forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/

in first 2-3 days you will get nervous cuz you will think that it is difficult, after a week you will be ok
