Just saw that some L2J repositories on GitHub have been disabled due to DMCA takedown notice from NCSoft.

It's useful tool to store your projects under version control. Especially useful when the project is developed by many people.

Git is similar to SVN with different (advanced) functionalities, notably easy forking system.

 

NCSoft asked to GitHub (you can compare it with xp-dev/assembla for SVN they just provide Git host) to disable L1, L2 and Aion repos, I didn't count but there was easily 200+ projects.

 

That will probably force L2J to launch their own git server to hold the repo. All in one, from the moment NCSOFT doesn't speak with server hosts (ovh, etc), it's a sword hit on water. That won't stop people to dev and launch servers (similar to old FBI story back in 2007).

fuck cant understand a shit.. :D ( not a dev or something ) the only thing that i understood is that still nothing special happened ,so everyone will continue their life as it was before hehehe

It's still a move from NC to stop shit around their games.

 

It happens only a few month after they asked Tower to stop retail support. They can be doing more in a close future.

That's true since L2 exists. You got no rights to use client on derivated sources. Emulator mention has been added later, but is retroactive - client connecting to an emulator is forbidden. Create your own client, with own assets and you can use your gameserver on a legit way that way. Emulator is just fine.

 

As said sdw, where NCSOFT will block (even if they are legally right) is on host section. They will have to contact main hosters and threathen them of penal pursuits. Creating a justice affaire for a single server, that's simply impossible, because of the number of servers. It will cost way too much, and if that's done that's only for biggest servers.

Private servers make big damage on ncsoft more than 10 million per year of course they can close them all but think about how much they should pay to FBI to close all of them.

Wouldnt moving to BitBucket be a good solution? I didnt have problem with DCMA, but maybe because my repository is private.
