Sorry to say but shields are not only made for you having some stylish thing on your chars, they're made to block attacks, so the higher the grade is the best it is.

i hate all that customs god damn, i prefer nightmare or dc, but best i think is vesper, anyway customs SUCKS

the doom heavy set + doom shield adds a huge block rate bonus, if you equip it in a Temple Knight and get bless the shield and advanced block buffs it becomes awesome for PVE..just to share knowledge...

 

im not a huge fan of shields for fighters anyway, i always preferred to use 2 handed blunts or swords in some melee...for mage any shield works because they have low block rate anyway...so i pick the one that makes me look better lol

Sounds to be a good setup, but your P def will be low compared to other heavy classes, or maybe similar to light classes P def, makes you kinda vulnerable.
