If I ever manage to fix the issues to get started my own private server and configure it to my needs...what server to choose for later progression? win2008 x64 or linux x64 so I can possibly host more than 1k of people? Damn - I used to work long on linux but never felt in love with it... :).

mmhmm sumthing like Intel Core2Duo 2x 2.33+ GHz 4 gb ram  and something like  100 Mbps bandwidth and for me i prefer ubuntu cuz i think is faster :)

You are totaly right! I am new-user (not totaly newbie) with linux and i have to point that LINUX is the perfect choise if u wanna a successful-not lagging-etc l2 server!
