To protect your server from DDoS attacks need to use a good firewall on your system most of the companies doesn't have firewall that means

that you have 0 security now depends on the companie which u are using

You do not need only a good Firewall for DDoS Protection ;) its way more complicated .. many many more stuff

More like : 15 RACKS of SERVERS/PACKET ANALYSERS/FIREWALLS/ROUTERS/FLOW-CONTROL/LOAD-BALANCERS

Firewall is low in the hierarchy, You can get your connection hurt before even comming to the software.

Best way is to buy a good rooter.
