How many players Online with this configuration?

Bandwidth 250 Mbps outgoing, internal or external

 

Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard Edition

depend of the pack that u using else  if u use some crap pack you wont hold even 1k because the pack :)
if is a good pack should be able to support more than 4k with this windows

years ago i support near 1k with much less machine + linux

it was something like
 

Cores 2

Frequency 2.8 GHz+

RAM 4GB DDR3 

Network connection 100 MBs

i can install Linux to but i dont know how to use it :P

 

Focus more on ddos protection, that should be your main concern.

Linux is recommended for big projects  , Windows is perfect for small/mid projects that i remember from that i read years ago

BTW we are talking for Java server right ?
