The purpose of changing the desing was doing it simple, as you say. You don't need geodata or pathnodes in order to connect to your server... I guess that you modified your l2.ini when you were trying to connect to your server, didn't you? When you don't even get to server selection menu is about IP's; your l2.ini IP is incorrect, your IP's from the .properties file are incorrect, or your ports are closed (but you should be able to connect through localhost, in that case).
