Only if you are updating from an SVN. If not and you have custom made files then any changes you make will be lost when you copy the updated files over to your server.

 

If you just mean your SQL then you just need to do the UPDATE feature and your customs will remain.

If you didn't use a SVN in order to save your progress, consider your project doomed (and the word is exact).

 

Depending which pack you use and which customs you made, it is sometimes easier to adapt your customs on latest pack (higher is the revision range between the pack you use and latest, higher what I say is legit) than to try the reverse.
