Well little update. Server was purchased last week :D Waiting for it to arrive at my home. The datacenter where it will be housed in only 1/2 hour away. DDOS protection.....what a bitch!! So far finding a datacenter that had REAL ddos protection has been the hardest part of this entire project. I contacted and talked with over 100 datacenters. Let me tell you something if you decide to do it right and get real ddos protection do your fakking homework. There are very few that actually have real protection. I am not going to give away some cake but I will give you a very good hint. Arbor peak flow/analysis. This is key to finding a DDOS protected network that actually works. So anyways things are rolling along the site has been ported to PHP-Fusion as well just needs some tweeking and whatnot. Everythings looking great! And no there is no ETA so don't ask. Here are the base specs for the server I bought. 2x Dual Core AMD Opteron 2212s 2x SAS 15k RPM, 73GB HDDs 12 GB RAM, DDR2 667MHz She'll take 3k players without lag. Insomnia

Unfortunately these days if you decide to open a server you are going to get ddosed. The bigger your server is the bigger target you are. The only option is to move to a ddos protected network. Using software protection, external hardware protection (like firebox or even cisco) are not enough. Upgrading your connection to 1gbps is not going to help it is only going to cost you more. If the attacker is already hitting you with a large scale attack he is going to be able to kill your 1gbps right up to 10gbit/s 10mil/pps. Especially with large servers these guys are making money or at least trying to. You get ddosed and than are contacted saying they xxxx amount of $$ to stop the attack. It sucks that the community has come to that. So if you are going to start a server seriously think about going with people like staminus, blacklotus, gigenet, or dragonara. These people specialize in protecting you from ddos attacks. Is it more expensive...ofc. But you have to do it if you are going to have a serious server. Do your research on those companies 1 may not be as suitable for you as the other. For example one of Dragonaras main partners is Cogent which is not great quality bandwidth and the routing for europeans is horrible. Do your research!!

Or not. Cancel your server and rethink it seriously. Take your time and do it right. No free host and domain..no home hosted server on a plugNplay pack. Put some effort into it and your results will be much better.

I comment on every server to get information for people that might play there. Doing what little I can to help sort the shit from the good. Not all my posts are bad. If I check a server out and its decent i say so. Boils down to I am tired of what all the crap servers are doing to the community. I won't -beep- it up. That is why I take my time and don't open the server right away and don't even give a eta :) Good :D and gl.

Ok so no real bot protection and no ddos protection. At the very least look into some "real" ddos protection. You are going to get a ddos attack...unfortunatley is is a fact of the L2 private server community these days. So don't screw your players by not investing in it.

I understand your hate for shitlude. Is it because all the servers running lude are using shit software (not to mention there are so many servers running lude)? Even the big lude servers are all using the same extender with the same old bugs. But if their was another extender that these servers are not using and Interlude was as it is supposed to be...what do you think about it than? or you just hate the chronicle period?

Exactly :D Would save the players alot of time and headache playing on fail servers.

What would be really great is if a server advertisement site came along that actually reviewed servers and tested them. Any home hosted servers without decent protection were denied...something like that. Alot of work but would be great.
