Check if server is running . go to start-> all programs-> Microsoft SQL server 2005 -> configuration tools-> SQL server configuration manager-> SQL server 2005 services and there you can see if your SQL server is running or not(if not right click and start). Click on servername combobox-> <browse for more...>-> network servers and wait few second, until database engine will be found and then select your server. I hope it will help you .
