Hey Guys

I know many people who have problems with configurating the MySQL server, becouse of this I have decided to make a tutorial, in which i will show you how to set up a L2J server without MySQL.

ATTENTION: THIS IS NOT A FULL GUIDE IT'S ONLY A EXTENSION TO THE NORMAL GUIDE!!

first some things i want to say:

1.I'm 17 years old an go to school, my englisch is not perfect! please don't critizise my englich skills!

2. This is my first tutorial, but I will give my best to write correctly and explain it as good as I can.

3.This is not a Funtopic,it is possible to set up an L2J server without MySQL server

4. in this tutorial I will use L2J Interlude

Ok let's start.

First of all you will need

xampp

then you will need

Navicat

and then the Interlude or other L2J packs.

If you have download xampp, you have to install it.

Choose you language, and follow the instructions.

When the Setup finished look on your Desktop, you will have an xampp shortcut there.

Open Xampp and Start Apache & MySQL, Now tick the box SVC on the Left of MySQL.

Xampp includes his own MySQL server this is the reason, why you Don't need to Download MySQL.

Xampp has setup you MySQL server with the Default configuration "root@localhost" use Password NO

seems your loginID is root and a PW is not set.

now you have to install Navicat:

Open Setup.exe and follow the instructions.

After you have installed Navicat you have to create a new Connection

Type 'Localhost' in the field: Connection Name

DONE!

now Extract the L2J packs in a folder and go to 'tools' and start database_installer.bat

Now the Funny part begins:

You have to Change the MySQL path to the Path of xampp.

Still type 'C:\xampp\mysql\bin' and press enter

Then set the configuration like in the picture below:

Now the database will be installed

Following steps will be explained HERE

if you follow my instructions you wouldn't have problems with set up L2J server

I hope this will help some people who have problems with MySQL!

You wanted alternative for MySQL so you decided to use MySQL??? You just instaled same MySQL just it was included in xampp package. You're still using it, so this all "GUIDE" makes absolutely no sence.

On topic:

I have heard that, at least in earlier xampp versions, the MySQL is configured either in aggressive mode, which may cause CPU spikes whenever MySQL service is not idle, or in regressive mode, which provides really, really low performance, which is generally unacceptable in l2j.

Care to elaborate?

@an0s:

If MySQL did not work, xampp will not work as well.

Only if you knowingly messed up MySQL installation, only then xampp will work.

What I wrote has nothing to do with spam.

Topic says: How to set up L2J server without MySQL server

And inside topic he explains how to set up a server by using MySQL...

xampp is a package, containing apache + php +  MySQL. So he's still using same mysql, just it is installed by xampps installer.

sry maybe I have say it with wrong words. I mean how to set up l2j without MySQL server 5.1 (the programm)

xampp contains mysql , thats right but it's much easier to install and configure. that what I meant.

Thats why I decided to make the guide

and btw. If Mysql server 5.1 Doesnt work, you can unistall it and & install xampp. Xampp will set all mysql settings to default.

In any case it works at my PC. And I think xampp is a good alternative to MySQLserver 5.1

At least to me this is completely USELESS, since having some programs in one package. would make you risk to have a facked up config [some crashes too], you will always run that risk because you do not know when all the process on xampp [shitty program like wamp (that's what i think)] will crush and make a mess.

About using this, might be ENOUGHT [only that] if you are testing yet, with your friends are finding bugs, and so on, but for a live server, i will never recommend this, if you want to have a server performancing well, you need to use mysql community board [from official site].

P.S. I read few people said that have messed their mysql so didn't know what to do to make their server .. well about that, you just need to clean your computer, going to delete ghost files [hidden and missing to be deleted ones] and deleting that from services list, and one more thing, installing that with another service name [not mysql anymore, for example use any of the other options like mysql55, mysql5, mysql5.1 and so on].

Thanks for sharing this guide, i aprecciate the time you have spent to make this, but remember one thing, althought be difficult to clean your computer to back to use mysql [official one], will be better for a better performance.

    • Thank you for your feedback, SkyLord — even the negative kind.   Let me give you some context on who we actually are, since you asked. L2-Scripts has been around for nearly 20 years. Over that time, we've worked with a large number of developers — I've personally seen probably half of every serious (and not-so-serious) developer in this scene. The most significant figure in our studio's history was Bonux. Together with a small team of assistants, he was essentially the backbone of our old codebase, and we were the ones who brought virtually every chronicle to the community — Essence, Classic, Main — all of it came through us.   Back then, we worked at scale. That era is over. Today, L2-Scripts is no longer a studio in the traditional sense. It's more of a developer collective. I work alongside the best developers I've encountered in 20 years. Bonux is still with us on Classic. A new developer named Den has joined — in just 3 years he became one of the top Essence developers in the world. Every one of us works independently, but we're united by long-standing friendships and shared projects.   We no longer chase every chronicle or every client. For the past several years, we've been focused exclusively on specific long-term projects where we're paid a proper salary — and when you focus like that, with 20 years of experience behind you, the quality of what you produce is on a completely different level. Our code is currently running on nearly all top Essence and Classic servers. We're now bringing Main (Last Protocol) up to that same standard.   You mentioned Nexvil. Yes, he worked with us. That was a difficult period — the lead developer at the time was not up to the standard we hold ourselves to. It was a short period, and it's long behind us.   As for the prices — I'd ask you not to judge a product by whether you personally can afford it. That's not a fair measure of value. The people running top-tier servers understand what they're paying for. If our pricing doesn't fit your budget, that's completely fine — but downvoting a service simply because it feels expensive to you doesn't reflect well, and it certainly doesn't make the product worse.   A special thank you to eMommy and Zenith for the honest and fair words — it genuinely means a lot. It's good to know there are people in this community who judge things as they are.
    • Just because someone does professional sales doesn’t mean everything is overpriced. If the products he provides are stable and good quality, then I see nothing wrong with it, and those prices aren’t even bad. Remember, we’re living in 2026, not 10 years in the past. Your mindset is probably stuck on buying the cheapest products because maybe you can’t afford better ones. And of course, there’s always someone who likes blaming others. I think you should mind your own business instead of blaming someone for how they run theirs. If you really think his prices are too expensive, then do better than him.
    • I have to be fair here and state that almost all 'good' servers on Essence/Classic are using bonux/l2scripts files and 10k for a decent essence build imo is not that bad of a price as long as nexvil is not touching these files
