[Help] Systemmsg Changes

Newbie modder here  :) I'm attempting to run modified system messages on US official servers, Gracia Final 2.4 Just Text changes and color changes, nothing radical.

 

I've been researching how to modify my system messages to change text and colors.

I've gotten all the tools I require (i think), mostly from this site over the last few days.

Via search, there isn't alot of step by step detail from start of mod to running the client. Posts seem very broad, the game has been around for awhile so I'm sure alot of this is common knowledge.

 

I've got;

-L2 FileEdit CT2.4 v1.0

-L2 Universal System Patcher

-Fyyre Patched L2.exe (ct2pt4_l2.rar)

-Fyyre GG Killer (wildcard.rar)

 

My problem is, although I can get all these programs to run individually, I'm not sure what order to run them in or if I even need them all.

 

I've used L2 FileEdit to modify the color of 1 message, as a test, then save/encrypted it using that same prog. Is the default Header 413 correct?

If I run the game normally, doing nothing other than editing the file with L2 FileEdit, there is no change in game, even though the game boots completely with no errors.

 

So I ran the L2 univeral patcher after that (prog ran though its paces no errors). I then booted the game by placing the modified L2.exe in the system folder and running the game from it, again the game booted fully, but no changes to the system messages were shown.

 

I'm kinda lost, I feel like I'm missing something stupid, need guidance.

I only want simple changes, the pop ups and language are too much :( its nice, but not what I'm looking for.

So just modify the base file with the changes I want and save it and it should work? No using any other program?

Make sure you have edited the right systemmsg, and in the right system folder. Indeed use a patched system, cause only then those changes can be applied. Indeed save 413 header. You could indeed take an already edited systemmsg and see if those do work, and edit on from there.
