How to add a core patch???????

can some one tell me how to drop a patch in a core file? if you have a mod and they say all you have to do is drop it in a core file, how would this be done? would it be dropped in the top part of the file or the bottom part, can someone clear this up for me...thx :)

i have a l2 server and i want to add some cool mods ppl have made to its core file, they tell me what file to add too and i guess it is one of the files in the l2jserver.cfg, but when i find this file and open it, i'm still puzzled on where to add it to the script. if i'm on the right track please tell me, if not please tell me, i have many guides but none of them show the small steps, remeber i'm new to java but trying to learn. if you can help please tell me in dumbies terms...hahahahaha
