a) how can editing hosts file be legal, but at the same time make it Illegal if you add two new lines? BS anyone?

b) L2 client (ncsoft) NEVER does anything to your hosts file.

The way your client connects is. You start up your client, client reads l2.ini to check for the login server domain (l2authd.lineage2.com), it then sends a request for the ip, but WINDOWS (microsoft) first redirects to the hosts file (for obvious reasons), checks if the entry for l2authd.lineage2.com is there. IF there is none, it then sends a request for the ip to the root dns servers. If there is an entry, it uses the ip listed WITHOUT sending a request to the root dns servers.

 

Again, NCSOFT CANNOT STATE THAT EDITING HOSTS FILE IS ILLEGAL! IT'S NOT IN THEIR AUTHORITY TO DO SO!

HOSTS FILE IS PART OF WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM AND NOT LINEAGE2 CLIENT!

Do you know why l2ownage.com got shut down?

BECAUSE THEIR SERVERS WERE HOSTED IN THE FUCKING USA.

Anyone hosting their server in the usa is breaching terms of EULA (well not them directly but the users connecting to the server, although it's easier to just shut down the source of the problem than fix the problem itself).

 

Servers hosted in EU/Russian are more or less safe since, EULA is american invention and so.. WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT IT.

Shove your patents and terms of agreement up your ass NCSOFT and take it somewhere else.

EVERY IP HAS CORRESPONDING IP ADRESS. You obviously don't know that. The isp that is providing that ip has a huge database with detailed info about every ip adress. IF there was confirmed reason of belief that the certain ip (following as l2.ro) was hosting child porn, then police would go over to the ISP in charge of it, request an EXACT adress where that server is located and then confiscate the hardware.

 

Why can't ncsoft do that? Well, EU doesn't give a fuck about eula, we went through that already. Because of that, NCSOFT has no juristiction over countries other than the US. As such, servers not located in the usa = safe = cannot be shut down = go fuck yourself ncsoft.

Do they want to close down every server other than their own? YES

Do they have the resources (aka money for lawyers) to close down all of the servers? No way lulz, there would always be new ones popping up. Sooner or later they'd run out of money.

Can they do it legally? Hell no lulz. Read the text above why not.

if i good remember using official files on private servers was always illegal...

 

One network of servers was closed by fbi in USA if i good remember dont remember name, becasue it was on official files...
