Η κινεζική κυβέρνηση θέλει να αντικαταστήσει όλους τους υπολογιστές με Windows έως και το 2022 και να χρησιμοποιήσει μία προσαρμοσμένη κινέζικη έκδοση Linux όπως το Kylin Linux. Η εντολή έρχεται από τα ανώτερα στρώματα του Κομμουνιστικού Κόμματος το οποίο θέλει να αντικαταστήσει κάθε υπολογιστή που δεν χρησιμοποιεί λογισμικό που έχει σχεδιαστεί στην Κίνα. Λέγεται πως αυτό πρόκειται για αντίποινα στις ΗΠΑ οι οποίες τον τελευταίο καιρό έχουν βάλει στη μαύρη λίστα μεγάλο μέρος του τεχνολογικού εξοπλισμού που παράγεται στην Κίνα.

Όλες οι υπηρεσίες της Κίνας έχουν εντολή να αντικαταστήσουν το 30% των υπολογιστών έως και το τέλος του 2020, ένα 50% το 2021 και το υπόλοιπο 20% έως και το 2022. Σύμφωνα με την CSC (China Securities Co) αυτό σημαίνει πως θα αντικατασταθούν περίπου 20 με 30 εκατομμύρια υπολογιστές.

Αν και πρόκειται για έναν τεράστιο αριθμό υπολογιστών, ίσως η Microsoft να μην χρειαστεί να ανησυχήσει για την ώρα. Η εντολή του κόμματος στοχεύει κυρίως τις δημόσιες υπηρεσίες και όχι τις ιδιωτικές εταιρίες οι οποίες θα συνεχίσουν να χρησιμοποιούν υπολογιστές με Windows λειτουργικό σύστημα. Ίσως όμως η πίεση που θα ασκήσει η κυβέρνηση, να αναγκάσει τις επιχειρήσεις να χρησιμοποιήσουν κάποιο αντίστοιχο κινέζικο λειτουργικό σύστημα.

Η Microsoft στο πρόσφατο παρελθόν έδωσε στην κυβέρνηση της Κίνας μία ειδικά προσαρμοσμένη έκδοση Windows 10 αλλά μάλλον αυτό δεν αρκεί πια. Με την Κίνα να οδεύει ολοταχώς προς ένα εξ’ ολοκλήρου κινέζικο σχεδιασμένο λειτουργικό σύστημα, το Linux δείχνει η πιο λογική επιλογή. Μάλιστα ήδη υπάρχουν διάφορες κινέζικες εκδόσεις Linux.

Είναι όμως καλά νέα για το Linux; Με την κυβέρνηση της Κίνας να έχει μία διάθεση να απαγορεύει την πρόσβαση σε διάφορες υπηρεσίες και λειτουργίες, ίσως τελικά η νοοτροπία του ανοιχτού λογισμικού που προάγει το Linux να είναι εντελώς αντίθετη με αυτή που θέλει να σχεδιάσει η Κίνα.

Αν και η μεταφορά όλων των συστημάτων από τα Windows στα Linux ή σε οποιοδήποτε άλλο λειτουργικό σύστημα επιλέξει η Κίνα, χρειάζεται πολύ χρόνο, η κινεζική κυβέρνηση είναι αποφασισμένη για την αλλαγή, ανεξάρτητα τη δυσκολία.
