Bandwidth - Traffic

Question

Posted (edited)

Hello. I want to start my own server. I am in stage that i choose dedicated + protection. So first i think i want a dedicated so i will go to OVH dedicated. After i want a more protection so i want a remote ddos protection. I found one that tell me that give me 1tb clean traffic.

How much players handle this?

Any method to calculate the traffic per player?

By 1 TB I hope you mean uplink traffic, otherwise anyone can shove down traffic your way and exceed the limit on a 0 player (or even offline) server.

The truth is, it depends on too many things to calculate even remotely correct values for traffic / player / month.

Here's a few things it depends on:

1. How badly your pack is coded (this includes L2OFF packs too, as a matter of fact)

2. Whether the server promotes clustered or solo (read: retail) gameplay

3. How many spawns you have and where they are

4. How many players are idle (e.g. private stores, afk, etc.) and how many are actively engaged in player-to-player interactions (this would include party XPing)

5. How is the solo XPing organized

Obviously, in a x1 (that's a joke, since there's no "real" x1 server for countless years now, including NA/KR/others) server, the traffic for the same amount of players will be drastically lower than in a single-town, perpetual pvp (or event) server. We are talking about orders of magnitude here.

1TB per month of bandwidth means you are able to upload 385kb/s 24'7 for the whole month.

Log to a server and open resource monitor. Check the average traffic of your client (receive) and do the calculations.
