CTRL + click on the icon of the layer chooses the render if that's what you mean.

Like i said, CTRL + left click on the ICON of the render selects the pixels that are used in there then he presses E (shortcut for Eraser) and deletes parts of the c4d that he dont want in his focal.

 

 

Edit: Added a pic to understand it better, you press at the icon that is inside the red circle and it selects the pixels that are inside the layer.
