                                                        -l2asm-disasm basic guide-

Open a CMD window

start>run>cmd

Navigate using "cd" to go forward and "cd.." to move backwards

example C:\cd Documents and Settings will bring you to C:\Documents and Settings

 

Navicate to your L2encdec folder, Copy and paste the file you wish to edit from your system folder.

In this case its going to be systemmsg-e.dat

                                        ***Remember to always back up any file your about to edit ***

 

Step 1 decode:

Type in cmd the following

l2encdec -d systemmsg-e.dat

 

it decodes and creates a file named "dec-systemmsg-e.dat"

 

Step 2:

 

move this file into l2asm folder and navigate there with cmd:

Type in the following to decode into a  .txt file for editing

>l2disasm -d ddf/ct1/systemmsg-e.ddf -e systemmsgnew.ddf dec-systemmsg-e.dat dis-system.txt

 

Step 3

open the txt file with notepad++ and edit. In my case i changed Dmg Text and removed a bunch of worthless spam like Power of spirits enabled. No need 2 see that shyt everytime u swing your weap.

Once your done begin to asm

 

Step 4

>l2asm -d systemmsgnew.ddf dis-system.txt asm-systemmsg-e.dat

 

Step 5

Move the asm file back to the L2encdec folder and navigate there with cmd and type.

>l2encdec -e 413 asm-systemmsg-e.dat enc-systemmsg-e.dat

 

Step 6

Delete the "enc-" off of enc-systemmsg-e.dat and place it in your system folder and enjoy.

 

{Note: Will only work on a patched system folder, Other wise you get 100% Crit errors. Use the search function to find a patcher}

 

This was just a basic guide of the commands needed to use l2encdec/l2asm.

Oh and BTW if you want an easier way to edit Systemmsg-e.dat file ONLY then download this editor. It types all these command lines in automatically and opens an easy to use editor so you can change system messages and Message colors EASY.

Works for c4-ct1.5 as far as i know.
