Is there anyway to keep users online even if they shut down their clients ?

I saw some private servers keeping characters still online when they are already gone.

Any scripts or any ideas please?

and even if there is a script for that u know how strong vps u would need to load all players and their stats? Well I would rather not add

this script unless I am getting thousands from donations.
