[Guide]Photoshop Shiny Gunmetal Button with Glowing Text Tutorial

Create a unique shiny gunmetal button with glowing text in Photoshop like the one below.

Step 1: Create your Canvas

First, create your canvas and fill it with a dark grey colour. We have gone for #535353.

Step 2:  Create a Rounded Box

Create a new layer and select the 'Rounded Rectangle Tool'. Create a rounded box with a pretty large radius for the corners and fill it with any colour.

Step 3: Add Styling to the Rounded Box

Now it's time to add a bit of styling to that box. Open up the Layer Style window for the rounded box and apply the following styles (they may need some slight adjustments depending on the size of your box):

Drop Shadow:

 

Blend Mode: Multiply [black]

Opacity: 37%

Angle: 90%

Check 'Use Global Light'

Distance: 3px

Spread: 0%

Size: 6px

 

Bevel and Emboss:

 

Style: Inner Bevel

Techinque: Smooth

Depth: 100%

Direction: Up

Size: 0px

Soften: 0px

Angle: 90 degrees

Altitude: 90 degress

 

Gradient:

 

Stop 1: Location: 0%, Colour: #494949

Stop 2: Location: 50%, Colour: #B1B1B1

Stop 3: Location: 51%, Colour: #C5C5C5

Stop 4: Location: 100%, Colour: #676565

 

Step 4: Add Some Text

Now it's time to add your text to this button. I suggest using a rather thick font. You can get some great fonts at dafont.com

 

 

Step 5: Add Styling to the Text

Let's add some glow to that text. Open up your layer style for the text layer and apply the following style. Again, these styles may need to be tweaked a little depending on the size of your text and the colour you want.

 

Inner Shadow:

 

Blend Mode: Multiply [black]

Opacity: 57%

Angle: 90%

Distance: 0px

Choke: 0%

Size: 5px

 

Outer Glow:

 

Blend Mode: Screen

Opacity: 75%

Noise: 0%

Colour: #246E95

Technique: Softer

Spread: 8%

Size: 9px

 

Inner Glow:

 

Blend Mode: Screen

Opacity: 41%

Noise: 0%

Colour: #5DA6CC

Technique: Softer

Size: 7px

 

Bevel and Emboss:

 

Style: Outer Bevel

Techinique: Smooth

Depth: 1000%

Direction: Down

Size: 2px

Soften: 0px

Angle: 90 degrees

Altitude: 30 degrees

Gloss Contour: Half Round

 

Gradient:

 

Stop 1: Location 0%, Colour: #053B49

Stop 2: Location 100%, Colour: #2E889B
