The European LCS Summer Promotion tournament starts on Friday, May 3rd. The tournament features some new faces in the amateur League scene, some old faces, and the LCS teams that didn’t make the top four. Here are some storylines to keep track of over the weekend.

Meet Your Makers Revenge

Meet Your Makers felt like a shoe-in for the LCS in January. Unfortunately a poor performance when it mattered most against GIANTS and DragonBorns kept them out. Now, they get a chance for revenge.

The veteran team of the Kukier brothers (Mokatte and Makler) drew the new Mousesports team (Dexter is Actually Evil) in the first round. If they can get past that formidable opponent, they will get their revenge against DragonBorns.

Since failing in the LCS Qualifiers in January, MYM have been busy dominating the challenger teams. They took first place at Lille where they thrashed TCM and Alternate. They took first place in the Solomid Invitational #2 and #3 against teams like Alternate and Sinners Never Sleep. However in the past few weeks they have struggled a bit in the EUW Challenger Series and the latest Solomid Invitational losing to Eternity, Esport4Life, and AT Gaming.

DragonBorns will be in for it no matter who they get but if MYM get to face them it will be nothing but fireworks.

ALTERNATE versus Wizards

ForellenLord and the rest of ALTERNATE are mainstays in the European competitive scene. Unfortunately for them, they have never been able to make it happen on the big stages. Standing in their way this time is an upstart Wizards team looking for a date with destiny.

Wizards qualified through the Ranked 5’s Qualifier where they took third. The team is part of a storied Spanish e-sports club and is also the place where Araneae and Babeta got their start. The Spaniards are probably looking ahead to what could be considered the El Clasico of the Promotion tournament with a Spanish showdown against GIANTS!

The qualifier in January featured a Spanish team coming out of nowhere to claim an LCS spot; that team was of course GIANTS! Now in this qualifier we have yet another all Spanish squad looking to do the same. However, so far Wizards hasn’t shown their best online. While ALTERNATE placed well in online tournaments and 2nd at Lille, Wizards have struggled to make it out of the first rounds, granted the team has only been around for a month.

Old Faces, New Teams

Familiar players have found new teams since staple teams like Millenium are disbanding. For instance, Tabzz will be found playing ADC for Sinners Never Sleep. Also on SNS is the familiar names of Noonia and wewilfailer.

Old faces with new places doesn’t end there. The former jungler of ALTERNATE and Natus Vincere, KottenX, has a new team on Esport4Life, aka Samurai in Jeans, along with YoungBuck and extinkt. Esport4Life have shown they have talent as a team with a few good, online performances. They won the Solomid Invitational #4, the Go4LoL Nordic and East March Finals, and placed second in the SoloMid Invitational #3. Look for the team to build a split push focused team with the  Zed and  Nidalee specialist in Extinkt and the  Shen specialist in YoungBuck.

The Other Challengers

For the most part it is hard to find out information on the newer teams. The new Mousesports lineup is full of a ragtag group of team hoppers that could pan out but their first round opponent is out for blood. TCM had a good run in the ranked 5s qualifier tournament which granted them entrance into the promotion tournament but other than that, they have either not played very much or haven’t done very well. If you want to know more about TCM, I recommend you check out Mid or AFK’s profile.

Anexis has the core of the team that participated in January still in tact but they switched the positions around a bit. They have put on a good showing in some of the online tournaments, finally qualifying for the promotion tournament in the Ranked 5v5 Qualifier. The team has a hard road ahead of them though. They will face Esports4Life in the first round and then have the Wolves in the second round.

Honestly, we will have another aAa or GIANTS! if any of these three teams make it into the LCS. Which is always a great story unless they take out your favorite team in the process.

The LCS Bottom 4

The bottom four teams from LCS will all have their work cut out for them, especially DragonBorns. Honestly, this team hasn’t been that good since benching Spontexx and losing Brokenshard. They finished the spring season with a dismal record of 6-22. The team in seventh place wasn’t much better, GIANTS finished with a record of 8-22 and they will more than likely play a hungry ALTERNATE.

Againt All Authority had a slightly better season. They were able to pull out good results in the season series against DragonBorns and GIANTS; a good sign since the talent level that they will face is around those two teams. The Copenhagen Wolves come into the Summer Promotion after a decent second half of the spring season. The Wolves will be hard for Esports4Life or Anexis to take out.
