I am having quite a hard time getting to understand how to edit the lineageEffect.u. I have read the 3lackheart guide on .u editing but it does not seem to work (at least for Interlude?). When using 'analyze raw data' on UTPT, the 'translated' part is a bunch of gibberish (no real 'statements' and stuff, instead output is like . and some weird letters.) However, when decompiling Engine.emitters, most of them only have declarations and I guess you can't edit it from there as mentioned by the guide hex editing is necessary. Yes, I did decrypt and boot it up in a hex editor, getting the same results in UTPT. emitters not doing anything or giving info.

If the scripts only contain declarations and they are not really doing anything, does that mean effects are connected to another place? BTW I heard that there is no use editing the hex or that NC soft is using another character set.

Anything? D:

I read this and I followed through with it. I opened untouched file with UTPT, analyze raw object, and used L2 Decrypt to make the file readable with a hex editor.

Decompiled

class ab_bleeding extends Emitter;

defaultproperties
{
    Emitters=

    AutoDestroy=True

    bRotEmitter=True

    RotPerSecond=(Pitch=0,Yaw=10000,Roll=0),

    bLightChanged=True

    bNoDelete=False

    bSunAffect=True

    DrawScale=0.30

    bDirectional=True

Hex form

There's not much to see unless i put my mouse over the actual hex which tells you a little bit of info. Let's say I wanna edit the size. 'draw scale' is no where to be found in the 'raw data'

width=1024 height=241http://imagestorming.com/media/6uo/1323818426/scale.png[/img]

Dunno, maybe it's supposed to be like that but opening hex is not really giving much info unless it is supposed to appear that way oO or i am doing something wrong (probly)

good doc & good read  :)

you want to increase "DrawScale"?

3D 24 9A 99 99 3E : it's a simple property

3D = proerty type -> see name table.

It's a "Index". Format developed exclusively by unreal. for example, Hex "9C" is not equal to the integer "156" but equal to "-28". Hex "6B01" is not equal to the integer "27393" but equal to "107".

I have a converter for this (send me mp when you are ready for this type of modification, not today i thing :p).

24 = proerty format : 24 = float.

9A 99 99 3E = value(float) : 0.30

I've been inactive recently, and I think both of the articles are a bit above my current understanding level D:

I'm not getting how from 9C (156) are you ending up with -28. I am not so great at math also, you used the formulas on the documents right?

1.8hex × 21 = 1.5decimal × 2 = 3

but 1.8hex = 1.8*hex right? and 1.5decimal = 1.5*decimal

What does the = 3 represent?

Sorry for the stupid questions and such, but I have 0 formal education in any forms of technology.

Off topic to l2sMod: did you get any formal education on forms of technology/art or whatever? if so which one I'm curious D:

Offtopic 2: that converter is free or... the editor cost is (your sig) looks interesting D:

Learns. This is not programming, just reading data for the properties.

Forget the index yet. It's not all the time.

I am interested, I learn and work.

the converter is free (just a little soft) as all my software, but not shared publicly.

Right... I bet I'll get that eventually D:

I'm interested in learning. What should I start out with and perhaps some good key words to search in google and such to help me improve/learn?
