Part 1

This quest starts with Head Researcher Sobling who is standing on the bridge in front of the first of the four Giants' Cave entrances. In theory it can be picked up at level 51, but since the lowest of the target monsters is lvl 56 and double HP, I would recommend that solo players should not start on the quest before they are 55.

 

Sobling, an archaeoligist, is trying to get together funding for a large-scale exploration of the Giants' Caves. To convince the guild elders at home he needs some relics to show them. Agree to help.

 

Sobling only wants valuable relics and to help you identify them he gives you an Ancient Language Dictionary ("Titans" is just a different word for "Giants"). Interestingly enough the archaeologist does not tell you which monsters to hunt, but the quest screen says that you get your items from Yintzus, Paliotes, Hamruts and Kranrots (all double HP).

 

 

You can find Yintzus (lvl 56, aggressive) and Paliotes (lvl 57, passive) in the building right behind Sobling, the poisonous Hamrut spiders (lvl 58, aggressive) and the Kranrot bears (lvl 59, aggressive) in the cave behind that. If those rooms should be taken, there are three similar setups to the left of you (you can see them from the bridge). Everything in there is social with each other; beware especially of the Halingka tigers who have a Bleed skill that lands almost every other time. So, apart from Greater Antidote, bring also a sufficient supply of Emergency Dressings.

The quest item acquisition rate is very bad. You get 1 Ancient Parchment for about every 30 or 40 mobs killed. When you double-click an Ancient Parchment (they go in your regular inventory) you will randomly get some document. In 25 percent of all cases an Ancient Parchment will open up into a Giant's Doodle, in another 25 percent of all cases it will open up into a Giant's Love Letter. Both are of no interest to Head Researcher Sobling but can be sold in any NPC shop for 100a.

About half of all Ancient Parchments will open into something more valuable: one of five chapters from a Giants' Architecture Handbook, one of five blueprints for a Giants' Golem, one of five chapters from a book about the "Basics of Giants' Magic" or one of five chapters from a book about the "Giants' Medical Science".

When you have all five chapters of a particular book, bring them to Sobling who will reward you with a low A-Grade armor recipe.

Sooner or later you will also obtain a "Mysterious Book" that goes in your quest inventory. When you show this to Sobling he tells you to take the book to Warehouse Freightman Cliff in Oren. What the dialogue screen says about "Warehouse Keeper" Cliff is wrong.

Cliff is, as his title indicates, in the Warehouse at Oren.

The Warehouse Freightman is an expert on the Giants' language. With the book you brought him he can clear up several remaining questions and out of gratitude he gives you an "Ancient Language Dictionary: Intermediate Level", which you will need to get access to Exploration of the Giants Cave, Part 2 when you are level 57 (or better level 62).

 

PS:This quest isn't valid if you play in a Gracia Epilogue server, coz this area is revamped for higher levels.(ONLY in Gracia Epilogue servers.)

Exploration of Giant's Cave - Part 1, Exploration of Giant's Cave - Part 2, The Zero Hour, Ghosts of Batur and Signs of Revolt have been updated due to the changes in hunting grounds, therefore it is not possible anymore to complete the previously mentioned quests. The rewards for these quests can be retrieved through the News Informer in town. Be sure to have all quest items in your backpack before talking to the News Informer.
