So i see that many ppl want to start mapping but dont know were to beggin with. I will give you my favourite sites that have to do with it.

 

I suggest this site for the basic and getting used to hammer.

IMO this is the easiest configure there is. Easy to understand and to do as well. Its the same site but another page of the guide.

Another great site that has more advanced things. Note that this is for css and the source engine witch is better than cs1.6. But the things u do in 1.6 are the same.
