After my private server gold guide for TBC private servers, I am back again to give you some info. Here's some gold tricks I use to keep my wallet full in retail servers.

I hope you find them useful. They are simple and easy to use.

1) Potion of Treasure Finding

This lovely Cataclysm addition allows you to farm extra stuff by killing mobs in Deepholm, Twillight Highlands, Hyjal and Vash'jir.

Here's why it's awesome :

a) It works in dungeons of this area too , meaning that you can still get the treasure chest it gives by entering dungeons through the dungeon finder system.

b) It is AWESOME in places like Verlok's Stand in deepholm where the respawn rate of mobs is like 1/2 seconds. With classes like prot paladin, blood dk, fury warrior and generally anything that has high aoe and survivability, this place can provide you with a nasty 1.500-2000 gold per hour by farming the mobs , and the stuff inside the tons of chests you'll get from the continuous killing.

c) It contains Embersilk Cloth (Mass amounts, like x11) Essences (Volatile Fire/Earth/Wind/Water) in high numbers too, greens , blues, and cash (up to 30g). All this shit can be sold for ridiculous prices, explaining the prices I mentioned above.

2) Dailies

Daily quests are one of the most traditional ways of saving money, rather than making it this time. Cataclysm dailies include Hyjal, Therazane and other rep dailies for the Cataclysm regions. These daily quests provide you with an interesting cash prize (~20-30g each) and they also offer a variety of items , necessary for getting your gear pumped up for raids. Hyjal also offers some unlockable vendors which sell gear up to 365 iLvl, meaning that you won't have to spend thousands of gold for the gear you want in the Ah. It also offers a lovely mount. Its only disadvantages are the gold/time rate, (meaning that if gold is your goal you better find another way, cause you get ~150g/ hour) , and the limit of dailies you can do each day, but hey, it's still worth it!

3) Do NOT neglect main professions.

I often talk to people that believe that secondary professions (Mining, Herbalism, Fishing etc) are the way to go if you want to make money through professions. That's a DEADLY MISTAKE. Secondary professions are useful for : special materials like Hardened Elementium of Mining, gathering the materials for the BIG money making through main professions. The price of the materials can be high enough during the beginning of a patch/expansion, since they serve both as crafting and profession leveling tools. But as the time goes by , the prices go lower, lower, dropping to a price that's just not worth the trouble. Let's take Mining as an example. The prices of Elementium and Pyrium bars at the launch of Cataclysm were CRAZY , reaching up to 300g a stack. But now, Elementium 20bar stacks go away for like 70g /stack, and this is way too low if you consider that it takes 40 prospectable ores for this stack.

The moral of the story? GET A HIGH LEVEL MAIN PROFESSION. This will make your money making as easy as hell.

4) Don't neglect oldschool materials.

This is a common mistake people make when they use their secondary professions to farm materials for the auction house. They believe that high level materials are the only way to go if you want to make money. That's wrong, because low level materials are still useful if you want to make money. Let's take Thorium Bars as an example. In an hour of mining in Twillight Highlands I managed to create 4 Elementium 20bar stacks , meaning that i'll probably get a lame ~280g for my trouble. This happened cause I was troubled by many more miners who wanted to gather materials for their main professions. But in Ungoro Crater, the BEST place ever to farm Thorium , I made more than  25 20bar stacks (Yep you heard well, 25) because the path was simple and noone was messing with my job. What does this mean? This that I will sell those lovers for a 40g /stack , making 1000 gold . Not bad eh? If you can do that 3-4 times  a week , I think you can make a good profit out of that combined with the other tricks mentioned above.

5) Check what's hot and what's not.

The auction house bus is driven by the people. It means the demands always change and this has a great effect on your pocket. Always look what's pricey and demanding , and go for it! Take Pyrite Ores as an example. At the launch of Cata , these were pretty pricey because everyone was leveling their Jewelcrafting , Blacksmithing etc. So going after these Ores that period, was a good deal. But now , their prices are low, the demands are not that high and the amount of Pyrite Ores in the auction house left unsold is extreme. But Living Embers now are extremely pricey cause they drop from bosses. Eventually , the raids will get nerfed, the bosses will get easier, and more people will start selling them through undercutting competition, meaning that the price will drop like CRAZY. But now,  they are hot!

6) Use the Add-on, Luke!

a)Don't waste your time looking for stuff that is underpriced, or looking for the price of the item you are about to sell to undercut the lowest seller. Get an addon like Auctioneer or Auctionator, they can do this job for you in seconds saving you lots and lots of farming hours.

b) Don't go looking in your bags like crazy to find what you want to sell. Get an item like Bagnon, to have a concentrated and organised inventory to help you find what you want with ease.

c) Tired of looking for grays to vendor to save up bag space? Not anymore! Get an addon like SellJunk , to get rid of those ugly useless items with one click.

d) If you sell in the auction house a lot , like me,  you'll surely have your mailbox flooded with mails. Don't open them like a noob! Get an addon like Postal, so you can open them at once , and get important info such as the total amount earned, the items recieved etc.

7) In a Huge need? Go Hunting!

There are some rare items (mostly pets and mounts) that sell for a ridiculous amount of gold in the AH. They are usually bought by collectors, pet whores and those who go for achievements. These items are :

a) Random world drops

b) Dropped by rare mobs

c) Dropped by bosses with a chance close to zero.

Here's some examples.

Poseidus

This seahorse-like rare spawns in Vash'jir and it drops the mount shown in the picture, Reins of Poseidus. The mount is BoE, and last time I checked it sold for over 20.000gold. If you find him lurking around, don't hesitate to get him!

Hyacinth Macaw

This bird now drops off every single mob in Stranglethorn vale, with a drop chance close to 1 per 10.000 kills. If you find this beauty, get happy cause you can sell it for over 35.000 gold.

Disgusting Oozeling

180px-Disgusting_Oozeling.jpg

This is a classic. This pet drops off some oozes in classic areas like Un'goro ,Felwood and Eastern Plaguelands, and it gives you a debuff that reduces your stats, thus drawing a lot of attention. This is important to some people that need attention :P The prices differ depending on the realm, although you will never find it below 6000-7000gold. This one is also a bit easier to farm, because of its 1.7% drop chance off the bags the oozes drop.

with cata prizes and methods 200-400 an hour is low ;p

The trinket I'm aiming for costs 39.000 gold in the AH.

Personally I use the first method with the pot, if you get a lvl 85 you'll find it for yourself, it takes some time to get used to (some classes can't do it so easily) but it pays, the 2000-2500g an hour IS NOT a lie or a fake calculation, I DO make this much (when I go there of course)
