[Ηelp] About groups

I wanna ask something about groups that i dont understand. Yesterday, i was watching the smoke text tut and was telling to make a group at the top and set it to Color Dodge and put the text layer in it. When i did this the text took around of it the color of the bg.

 

So, then i tried to do it without group and i did nothing. Why this happens? Are groups having something special?

A group is just a set of layers which are organized together in a folder.It won't change anything, but you should be aware of the order you put the layers in the folder.When you drag and drop a layer in a group, automatically the layer goes in the end of all grouped layers.Maybe when you placed the text in the folder, it went down, in the end of all layers of the group.

I know all these things, that all layers take the blend mode of the group but i dont understand something. In this group i placed only one layer, as the tut saying.

Ok just keep the group at normal blending and change the blend mode of the layer.To be honest, a group with one layer only, has no sense.Just keep it out of the group and rename the layer, if you wanna be organized well.
