stupid question but what would be the max number of friends/people that can play at the same time ? on an normal pc... no details

It depends on your server machine... Normally ,around 100-150, but with a better machine it can reach 1000 +

yes depends alot you can play normal with 10-20 players online on a simple configuration... i had my own server like you for friends and we played on a normal pc (sempron 2600+ 1 gb ram ) and normal internet conection like 10 players and it was runing PERFECT so... make an ideea.

In a normal pc with 1mbs upload (we say you have so..) and 1 gb ram you can have 10-15 without lag i think

You can run it on xp, even on Linux if You know anything about that.

If your server is "home made" you should Use your Computer OS (XP Professional-Home) If you want to RENT a Dedicated Server machine in a Datacenter...they will Offer you a "Server Edition" of XP.

i'd suggest you to start with l2off if you got a good pc.

1.L2 off files are illegal.

2.He just want's to play with his friends so l2j is enough for him.

3.L2 off requires much better pc.
