The Remote Desktop Connection client has been used since Windows 2000 to connect from one Windows-based computer to another over a local network or Internet connection. With Microsoft's release of the Remote Desktop Connection client for the Mac, you can connect from your iMac (or another other Mac computer) to a Windows-based machine through the Remote Desktop Connection protocol.

So Let's Start

  • Enable Remote Desktop Connections on the Windows computer by clicking "Start," "Control Panel," "Performance and Maintenance" and then clicking "System." Click the "Remote" tab, check the "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" check box, and then click the "OK" button.
  • Download and install the Remote Desktop Connection Client 2 onto your iMac. (See "Resources.")
  • Start the Remote Desktop Connection program on your iMac from the program list or desktop shortcut.
  • Type the name or IP address of your Windows computer into the "Computer" field and then click the "Connect" button. Enter the username and password for the Windows computer, click "OK" and you will be connected.
