I don't think that I have to say something more except to try different modes on the layers and smudging the render and the background.

well,if you ask me blane's guide is not the best since he doesn't give any help on the resources so a ps newbie can't know where to find such brushes.as i remember he doesn't even say what kind of brush he used.I am sure he would have made a better guide if he had the time so don't get mad with him.

Just look for ps guides at deviantart....
