Elyos

4d1cc2c6731755b2ad8a036f.jpg

The Elyos occupy the lower half of Atreia, known as Elysea. After the Epic Cataclysm, they found themselves bathed in sunlight for over 750 years and, as a result, have transformed into a beautiful and radiant people. However, their splendor has also led to the Elyos becoming arrogant; they see themselves as blessed by Aion, while the Asmodians, cast into darkness by the Epic Cataclysm, are seen by the Elyos as cursed creatures.

As a people, the Elyos can be comforting, with a warm and friendly manner. Against foes however, no such trace of kindliness or benevolence can be found. Their ascended forms feature stunning, angelic wings and they carry immense strength that belies their graceful facade.

The Elyos now serve the five Seraphim Lords who helped them build their city of Sanctum and guided them to safety when all seemed lost. The stump of the Tower of Eternity that stands on Elysea is now known as the Tower of Light, and serves as a constant reminder to its people of the terrible mistake perpetuated by the Asmodian people and their Shedim Lords.

Asmodians

The Asmodians are a brave and hardy people, separated from the Elyos by the Epic Cataclysm and plunged into a world of darkness and despair. To survive such desolation is one thing, but to thrive and prosper is quite another. The scars of their history are still exposed for all to see; as the Asmodians sank into their cold and somber world, their bodies started to change. In the darkness, their skin fell pale, and as their eyes adapted, they developed an otherworldly glow about them.

To their own, Asmodians are infinitely generous and fiercely loyal - they would sooner give their life in battle than to see that of a comrade taken from them. However, outsiders beware; Asmodians are an increasingly hostile faction and will not think twice before bringing their colossal power into play. Similar to their Elyos counterparts, Asmodian Daevas are blessed with strength and the ability to fly, though their wings have darkened following many difficult years on Asmodae.

They now follow the Shedim Lords, the five Empyrean Lords ordered by Siel and Israphel to protect the upper foundation of the Aion tower, the Tower of Darkness, and with them have established the city of Pandaemonium.

The Abyss

During the Cataclysm, the Tower of Eternity was shattered. When this occurred Atreia was sundered into two halves, leaving a base for the tower on each half of the world. Between the tower’s bases a great disharmonious resonance began to flow. This is where the Abyss lies.

After centuries have passed, the two factions, Elysean and Asmodian, began to discover entry points into the realm of the Abyss from their homelands. Many of the expeditions sent to explore these gates never returned. Finally, gates to permanent portions of the Abyss were found. These are now known as an Abyssal Gate. This part of the Abyss was soon to be called Reshanta.

In the lower portion of the Reshanta both the Elysean and Asmodians have set up large fortresses in which to stage their conquering of the Abyss. To the north east the Asmodians have settled Primum Landing, within an ancient fortress revived to house their Archons. In the south west, the Elysean forces have built a shining fortress among the ruins Teminon Landing to house their Legionaires.

Within the Abyss the Asmodians and Elyos have not only each other to face but the denizens of Reshanta as well. This includes the Balaur who have found there way back to the realm of Atreia. Using their Dredgion Battleships, the Balaur are able to reach the whole of the Abyss.

Dredgion Battleships

In an effort to destroy the forces of the Elyos and Asmodians, the Five Balaur Lords have sent their Dredgion battleships to wreak havoc within the Abyss. These powerful monstrosities carry weapons that can fire on Daevas who get to close, blasting them from the skies. They also are the troop carriers for the Balaur and carry thousands of Baluar soldiers to drop as they please throught the Abyss. In order to defeat the the Dredgion, the Elyos and Asmodian forces must find a way to enter it and destroy it from within.

Entering the Abyss

In order to enter the Abyss both factions require that you complete a series of tests to prove your knowledge, strength, and ableness to survive the harsh environment of the Abyss. These tests are given to you when you reach level 25, and upon completion of the final test you will be able to use the one of the Abyss gates avaialble to you.

Each landing has three portals that will allow you to leave the Abyss. Each of these portals will take you to their corresponding zones depending upon where you may need to go to either meet with your legion and friends, or to continue your adventures in another zone.

Coliseum

Coliseums allow players of the same faction to battle each other in an enclosed environment without having to worry about resurrection penalties or other difficulties common in the Abyss. Coliseums are available in both Sanctum and Pandaemonium.

Sometimes Daevas need to settle their differences without consequence. It can be a friendly duel, a test of skill, a relief of frustration, pecking order, or a practice of group battle tactics.

Rules of Coliseum

Any player may enter the Coliseum grounds by talking to the Arena Master located just outside the Coliseum entrance. By clicking Take me to the Arena you will be instantly teleported to the Coliseum grounds.

All

- Spells (including summoned spirits) and other buffs cast before you enter the Coliseum also carry over once you teleport inside the Coliseum. Players may also use their wings within the Coliseum grounds.

- If you do not move or take any actions (like casting a spell) you will enjoy one minute of invisibility.

- There is no time limit as to how long you can stay in the Coliseum. Should you wish to leave, you can talk to the Arena Master inside the Coliseum grounds.

PVP

- As soon as you become visible you will be vulnerable to attack from all other players under the standard PvP rules.

Group PVP

- If you are in a group before you enter the Coliseum, you cannot attack other members of your group. This allows for team play within the Coliseum, where it would otherwise be a free-for-all.

Spectators

Players can also choose to watch if they wish; the Coliseum grounds are ringed with public stands that can be accessed from the left or right of the Coliseum entrance (you don’t have to enter the Coliseum to spectate).

Flight

Overview

You will receive your wings at Level 10 when you ascend to a Daeva.

There are many different aspects to flight in Aion, which plays a vital role in Travel, Combat, Quests, and Crafting. Your Flight Meter is located at the bottom of your screen to the left of your Mini-Map and will give you all of the information you need to know about controls and limitations.

At first you will only be able to fly in certain areas, called flight zones. Your ability to fly will be indicated by your Flight Meter, which will light up when you enter a flight zone. Flight is limited to 60 seconds, but can be increased with various armor, titles, and other items in-game.

You can begin flying by either using the Page Up button or clicking on your Flight Meter. For information on controls, time remaining, and the cool off period; hover over the Flight Meter for the

tool-tip box

Handling

After pressing Page Up to begin flight, you can use the R and F keys to ascend and descend. Although, once off the ground, movement can be governed in the same manner that it is on the ground, by using the W,A,S,D keys and by pointing your mouse while right-clicking.

After you are in the air and reveling in your new abilities, you will need to pay close attention to the flight gauge displayed above your head. The border of the Flight Meter also serves as a gauge and lets you know how much flight time you have left. The green bars will start to count down and flash red when your flight time is expiring. You will also get an on-screen warning and one in your chat window, just to make sure you don’t miss the clues that it is time to land.

If time runs out before you touch ground, you will begin to fall and can suffer damage or even death upon impact. When in flight, your Mini-Map will display either blue or red wings, depending on your height.

Blue wings mean you are at a safe height although you may suffer some damage if you fall. Red signals that you have reached a height that will result in certain death should you fall.

Flight is restricted to flight zones, although you can Glide as soon as you ascend and get your wings. The first available flight zones are: Verteron for Elyos and Altgard for Asmodian.

Gliding

f469bb4dd4fb4ebe856ecb16.jpg

The ability to Glide is governed by momentum, so the higher you are, the further you will be able to go. Gliding is a gradual descent and you cannot rise manually as you would with Flight, however you may experience updrafts that will take you higher and increase your flight distance.

Once you are in the air, press your Space Bar once to open your wings and begin Gliding and press it again to close them. Speed is controlled by leaning forward (W) or back (S). The mouse can be used to control your direction, the same as flight. Experiment with the different movement keys while in the air to find out what works best for you.

The flight gauge above your head will be yellow when Gliding, opposed to green as it is with Flight. Keep an eye on your Flight Meter, as Gliding is governed by the same timer and cool off period as Flight.

Warning: Pressing the Space Bar once you are Gliding will retract your wings and cause you to fall. This can be easy to do and there is then a 10 second cool off before you can Glide again.

Improving Flight

Like any new skill you are learning, flight will take time to perfect; and you can probably count on taking a few falls before you have mastered it.

There are numerous ways to enhance different attributes of flight, such as speed and duration. While you only start out with 60 seconds of flight, in time you will be able to extend that to several minutes with armor, accessories, and possibly even a new set of Wing Feathers. Although, most of these items are not easy to come by and when found, can be rather pricey.

At level 10 and then again starting at level 25, you will start to get Campaigns and Quests related to flight and your entry in to the Abyss. As a reward, you will receive manastones and skills to improve your flight. There are also titles to be had, potions to be drank, and scrolls to be read; all helping you lengthen and improve your flight.

Warning:

Flight Tips

- Keep an eye on your Flight Meter and flight potions handy to extend flight time.

- If you fly too high our try to leave the flight zone you will hit an invisible wall.

- If you cannot change your altitue using your mouse, check to see if ScrLk (Scroll Lock) is on. ScrLk locks your altitude and can then only be manually adjusted using the R & F keys.
