Let me make it very clear to EVERYONE what ucoz means in the L2 private server community...

 

A ucoz hosted server is almost guaranteed to fail. In the past, those of us who have been here long enough know that ucoz servers don't last more than a week or two normally. Granted, there are the exceptions. But the majority of ucoz servers are absolute fucking failures.

 

Ucoz says "Hey world! I can't afford to pay $10 for a real domain, so I'll host it at ucoz! FUCK YEAH!" And if you can't afford $10 to purchase a domain for an entire year, then you SURE as hell can't afford to spend money on a REAL server OR a real host. So that means the server is probably being run off your own computer, from home, on a non-business class line.

 

.tk is just as bad, so you're not fooling anyone.

Not all servers start from .com sites, some start from .ucoz and work their way up to .com... I don't see what is wrong with having these free sites. Maybe site is bad, but server is good. Work it's way up to .com? Listen, you miss the point entirely.

 

1. If an admin can't afford $10 a year for a domain, then they sure as hell can't afford even a rock bottom server. (not like they cost that much really, you can get away with a $300 system and have a decent server)

 

2. If they're not willing to pay for the domain, then it shows they're not serious about their own server. That means it'll be gone in a week or two, a month at the most usually.

 

3. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO tired of all these 15 year olds thinking they can just load up these fail servers and damage the L2 community. Right now the L2 community is dying sadly. New games are emerging (Aion and others, Terra eventually), and the players are tired of joining servers only to have them close soon after. The gm/admin corruption, the donations, all of it... most players are tired of it. So they leave. And the L2 community as a whole suffers for it. So that's why I'm annoyed. Because they do more harm than good.

 

 

And as an FYI, I don't give a shit about my post count here. Or anywhere for that matter. It's not like stuff is getting shared here that's not getting shared anywhere else. By the time it's here it's been on a handful of sites/forums already and is easily found. If one of the higher up board admins wants to reset it, they can be my guest.

 

I post because I want to and because I need something to do while I take a break from coding and fixing crap. Plain and simple.

 

Edit: And you'll notice I don't go ripping on servers like L2Confused. I actually PM'ed flower, curious about her set up and whatnot and spoke a little. It's because servers that actually look like they made an effort, and did more than installed a 3-clicks-n-go pack and just changed a few config options, I don't bother.
