What is Flock?

Flock is a web browser built on Mozilla’s Firefox codebase that specializes in providing social networking and Web 2.0 facilities built into its user interface. Flock v2.5 was officially released on May 19, 2009.

The Flock browser is available as a free download, and supports Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux platforms.

Features

Flock 2.5 integrates social networking and media services including MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, Blogger, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, etc. Notably, when logging into any of the supported social services, Flock can track updates from friends: profiles, uploaded photos, and more. Flock's latest 2.5 version added Twitter Search functionality, multi-casting of status updates to multiple services, and the introduction of instant messaging via Facebook Chat in the browser.

Other features include:

    * native sharing of text, links, photos and videos;

    * a "Media Bar" showing preview of online videos and photos as well as subscription to photo and video feeds;

    * a feed reader supporting Atom, RSS and Media RSS feeds;

    * a blog editor and reader, allowing direct posting into any designated blog;

    * a Webkit-mail component allowing users to check supported web-based email off site, compose new messages, and drag-and-drop pictures and videos from the "Media Bar" or webclipboard into a new email message;

    * support for third-party add-ons, including a number of Firefox extensions.

Reception

    * Download.com top rated, 5 out of 5

    * Ranked #6 on PC World's list of the 100 best products of 2008

In December 2007, Flock won the Mashable Open Web Awards for Applications and Widgets and in March 2008, Flock won the South By Southwest Web Award for Community.

CNET gave the Mac OS X version of Flock 1.0 the title of "Best Mac Software of 2007." PC World's Harry McCracken reviewed Flock as his "New Favorite Web Browser."

In February 2008, AOL announced that it would discontinue support for the Netscape browser, and recommended Flock and Firefox as alternative browsers to its userbase of Netscape 9 users. For the Netscape 8 userbase, AOL recommended only the Flock browser to its users. In March 2008, Flock announced that they had seen "nearly 3 million downloads" and a 135% percent increase in active users in the first two months of 2008. They also announced "more than 70 percent of Flock users making it their default browser of choice."[

In May 2008, Flock won the Social Networking category of the Webby Awards. Flock was nominated for this award along with Facebook, Bebo and Ning. On July 22, 2008 Linux distributor PC/OS  announced that the Flock browser would replace Firefox as its primary browser on its workstation releases.

    • Hello lovely community, When you talk, about trust first of all I want you to stay and think for a second. - If was not a trusted person why I would even share this information? (seriously not a single reason) - I did not share any information about how this happened, and which company had the vulnurability (the issue has been fixed from their side and they was very helpful and took quick action + our dev as expert took that quick action) I also want warmly thank abusix.com for providing detailed information (not going to share the whole email for obivious reasons) Mentioning  - So lets clarify now what to except from the project. We have different different protocols and 2 engines. But first we are going to start with Interlude Mastered which is going to be a modern engine but a familiar one. Secondary project will be with the latest engine UE however this one needs allot of work is not that easy it takes time(so we will have it soon as is ready) I got to agree with Seamless, Good project are developed quietly. Also we have already clarified that the servers that we are working are under development how is possible guys to give you detailed information about something that is not finished yet? The topic opened on General Discussion Instead of  Private Servers for a reason. Some of you already have serves in this topic please and none of you have approach they way i do and be open for your own servers unless you have it ready until now so please.... atleast I'm taking a step and I'm pretty much open to share information with everyone. Once everything is ready Server information and everything will be shared in the topic: Private servers. Thanks in advance.

    • Good projects are developed quietly and launched only when they are ready to maintain a consistent online presence and build a community. The formula is simple, yet people keep making the same mistakes.   Start with an alpha phase and keep access limited. Since the author claims to already have an inner circle, use that group for early testing. Then open a closed beta through invitation keys or a similar system. Later, announce an open beta.   During these early stages, do not accept donations, partnerships, or other forms of support. Focus entirely on improving the project. Once it is stable, announce it and continue maintaining it regardless of the maximum number of users on
    • in best case this project will open with 100 ppl
