guss Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) Hello everybody , i am testing a H5 server and i would love to start a thread asking for a bit of help if that possible. I am new at the L2j community and i am starting to keep up my steps 1 at a time. For the moment i want to buy a Server to start my beta testing with some people . And here are the questions . 1: Quad Core or Dual Core (Xeon of course) . Do i need horse power since server will use mainly Debian (not desktop) + mysql ? 2: RAM ? DDR2 vs DDR3 ? Amount of GB ? (some machines are cheap with DDR2) 3: Any particular brand? Please consider that i am not the uber duper guy that could spend much cash , looking for something second handed of course :D And 1 irellevant question . Until i grab my machine i got one spare dual celeron with 2GB DDR2 only that is sitting. I tried to load GS (L2J server is what i am using) and i had a memory problem , heap etc. Is there a way that i can alter some settings in this line ? java -Djava.util.logging.manager=com.l2jserver.util.L2LogManager -Dpython.cachedir=../cachedir -Xms1024m -Xmx1536m -jar l2jserver.jar and get the server up and running at least for some testing ( custom shops - npcs etc) till my new server arrive? Geodata and pathfing is off of course . Thanks a lot guys and hope to get your answers . Regards Edited February 3, 2015 by guss
0 SweeTs Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) 1. More is better ofc, with dual you should be fine since server is not rly processor based. 2. DDR3 recommender, at least 3/4GB. 3. Ovh or any reseller of them. With 2GB I'm not rly sure if you can run it.. Count 1GB for OS and applications, and depending of the pack and configs server usage is like, let's say 200mo - 1GB :) You can decrease Xmx, but if you set it too low server won't load, else you disable most of the configs, you can try :) Edited February 3, 2015 by SweeTs
0 roko91 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) I doubt that Debian without GUI will take more than 100MB so 4GB even DDR2 should be more than enough for beta tests (even for live if you don't exceed certain player count). Even L2OFF IL can be run with 4GB DDR2 on Windows 7 if you keep you system clean without bloatware. About your memory problem it looks like you use too much Xms/Xmx for 2GB RAM. Try to reduce it (I know it's l2j default settings but still you can try as you don't use geodata) and turn off any unnecessary bloatware before running the server. Edited February 3, 2015 by roko91
