HELP me i am a photoshop newbie xD!

guys i select with the wand the thing is wanna cut from the 2nd image(a knight in my occation) and when i delete it (i press DEL key) i see a white backround not yours the black-white, its like i make the whole other image white but it still excistsand i can't make my sig help me pls

or if you can't choose it again and do the same thing...
