Για σταθερές λήψεις φωτογραφιών και βίντεο σε αποστάσεις «superzoom» ή σε συνθήκες με χαμηλά επίπεδα φωτισμού, η Nikon έχει εξοπλίσει την Coolpix P950 με σύστημα οπτικής σταθεροποίησης της εικόνας διπλής ανίχνευσης VR, που επιτρέπει λήψεις έως και πέντε στοπ χαμηλότερης ταχύτητας κλείστρου από ό,τι θα ήταν δυνατό. Μάλιστα για μεγαλύτερη ακόμα σταθερότητα όταν βρίσκεστε εν κινήσει, υπάρχει και λειτουργία «Έντονης σταθεροποίησης». Το εύρος του ISO κυμαίνεται μεταξύ 100-1600 (υπάρχουν και ρυθμίσεις για 100-3200 και 100-6400) ενώ η ταχύτητα burst αγγίζει τα 7 καρέ το δευτερόλεπτο. Να αναφέρουμε ότι η κάμερα διαθέτει λειτουργία macro που επιτρέπει την λήψη θεμάτων από απόσταση 1 εκατοστού από τον φακό.

Η Nikon Coolpix P950 προσφέρει οπτικό ζουμ 83x (2000mm σε φορμά 35mm) όμως με τη λειτουργία Dynamic Fine Zoom επεκτείνεται στα 166x ψηφιακά (4000mm σε φορμά 35mm). Διαθέτει αισθητήρα 16MP (1/2.3, ουσιαστικά ο ίδιος που βρίσκεται και στην P900), ηλεκτρονικό σκόπευτρο (EVF) τεχνολογίας OLED με 2359k-dot και οθόνη LCD 921k-dot που μπορεί να πάρει κλίση και να περιστραφεί σε σχεδόν οποιαδήποτε κατεύθυνση.

Να αναφέρουμε επίσης ότι δίπλα στο EVF υπάρχει ένας οπτικός αισθητήρας που πραγματοποιεί αυτόματη μετάβαση από λήψη από την οθόνη σε λήψη από το σκόπευτρο καθώς πλησιάζετε το πρόσωπο σας στη μηχανή. Υποστηρίζει λήψη βίντεο ανάλυσης 4K στα 30fps με στερεοφωνικό ήχο ή Full HD με 60fps και χάρη στην έξοδο HDMI μπορείτε να εξαγάγετε την εικόνα σε μία εξωτερική οθόνη κατά τη διάρκεια της εγγραφής. Δεν απουσιάζει επίσης μία υποδοχή για εξωτερικό μικρόφωνο αλλά και υποδοχή microUSB. Επιπλέον υπάρχει δυνατότητα λήψης time-lapse videos διάρκειας 10 sec με ταχύτητα αναπαραγωγής 25 ή 30 καρέ το δευτερόλεπτο. Η κάμερα θα διατεθεί στην αγορά από τις αρχές Φεβρουαρίου με τιμή £799 στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο.
